  • Why is Teeth Cleaning Beneficial to Someone’s Oral Health

Most of us are very conscious when it comes to our oral health. But there are some who tend to forget about taking care of their oral health. Dentists would often recommend that we should brush our teeth thrice per day or every after meals, followed by flossing and rinsing with a fluoride mouthwash. They would also recommend for at least twice a year dental visits for your routine cleaning which aids your mouth by removing plaque on the surface of your teeth and those that burrow below your gum line.

Dental cleaning is an example of a preventive dental treatment and procedure. It is also known as oral prophylaxis, deep cleaning, teeth cleaning or dental scaling. This procedure composes of cleaning all parts of the outside teeth that has hard or soft plaque. Usually this procedure will take you for about 15 to 30 minutes with the usual procedure involving teeth scaling throughout the teeth (upper and lower arches). Often times if the patient suffers from a severe condition, a more thorough scaling is required. For this condition, it may take up to one hour to two hours.

During the dental cleaning procedure, your dentist will be scaling through the subgingival space and may touch or separate some gums. Bleeding may occur as this is normal, so do not panic. This condition is usually normal. Those people who observe a proper oral health care at home like brushing and flossing their teeth usually do not experience soreness during the procedure. However, those who do not may experience some discomfort and sensitivity during the treatment process. It depends on your dentist if he/she will apply an anesthesia to alleviate any discomfort during the treatment.

To sum it all up, dental cleaning is recommended by any dentist every six months. You also need to observe and practice a good oral hygiene at home so that when you are visiting your dentist for your routine cleaning, no other problems would arise.
